I’m in California, so we won’t be on the 2020 for another 3 years.

Im just trying to get out ahead of a few things.

If there is a genny and ATS on the house, flipping the main will start then genny.

What is the requirement for these situations?

Well, IMO, I'd say you'd have 2 of the three disconnects listed in 230.85, and you'd need to supply signage to note the emergency disconnect, service disconnect and emergency disconnect, generator disconnect.

Went and read the Code article on NFPA's site.

Should have done that first.

So it seems that there can be more than one "Emergency Disconnect", but they need to be labeled and grouped.

stop calling it " emergency " that word throws it into a different code section
... 2020 NEC 230.85 Emergency Disconnects.... what would you like it called?
The OP made it sound like he is concerned with the new code regarding an emergency disconnect ahead of the meter for one and two family dwelling units. If you fire fighters come and shut that off, and they don't know there is a generator... zappy zap zap.

“Emergency Disconnects“ are exactly what I’m researching.

They are not yet required in California, but will be in the next Code cycle.

And I install a lot of generators and transfer switches.

Hence my research.
