Electrical panel in cloths closet?

How long ago did the NEC require that the electrical distribution panel could not be located in a cloths closet? Thanks for your help.

I believe it was 1990.
I don't have a book that old, someone else posted that date in an earlier posting.

I remember 96 code had it in there.But now it doesnt actually say clothing closet,just can`t be located near easily cumbustiable material.Or in a bathroom.

Verizon re read 240.23(c) overcurrent devices shall not be located in the vicintity of easily ignitable material such as clothes closets. Sorry its still ther.

1981 NEC 240-24 (d)

Reads the same as the 2002.

The 1959 NEC, 240-16 Location in Premises. Overcurrent devices shall be located where they will be:
(c) Not in the vicinity of easily ignitable material.
