I'm currently designing an enclosure for a Class 2 Div. 2 Group G area and trying to dechypher what NEC is trying to convey in it's statement concerning a "dust ignitionproof enclosure". My question is, Will a NEMA 4 enclosure by itself suffice for this application or would I have to add a purge? I definitely do not want to use a NEMA 9 enclosure. Thanks, dst55

Re: Dust ignitionproof Enclosure

What will be in this enclosure? Only arc producing or heat producing devices require dust ignitionproof enclosures. Other enclosures are only required to be "dust tight"

Re: Dust ignitionproof Enclosure

The only device going in the enclosure is an Allen Bradley PanelView 1000T HMI. I talked with "our friends" up in Boston (Quincy) and it looks like I'll be okay with a NEMA 4X without a purge. Thanks, dst55
