I agree on the individual for the hood, but not the 20 part.
I think my mind threw in the 20A as that's what I put in. I saw a MW/hood one time that required a 20A, so ever since then I just put in a 20A. Cost is very little more.
Something else I forgot, the rule for the hood is only for cord/plug connections. I can't find anything for a hardwired one.

2020 NEC 422.16(B)(4)(3) states that IF the range hood is cord and plug connected, than it IS required to have an individual branch ckt.

Regardless, if it’s your buddies house , wire it like it’s yours, and run separate circuit for range hood.
