I have a appllication located inside a manufacturing facility that requires diesel to be dispensed into tanks located on the vehicle. The question centers around a pit locted in the area. The pit contains a drive motor for the conveyor chain. Does the code require the devices in the pit and conduit be treated as explosion proof? I believe the diesel is a class 1 div 2 product in that it is not flammable just combustable. The manufacturing facility is air conditioned so the ambient temperature gets no higher than 75 degrees. Thanks for any help yu can give.

Typically, if diesel is the only product under consideration, it may be omitted with regard to electrical area classification if it is not handled above its flash point. It is not one of the "Selected Chemicals" listed in Table 4.4.2 of NFPA 497-2004. (Also see Section 4.2.7 of NFPA 497-2004)
