I have been looking but have been unsuccessful in locating requirements for the electrical classification around compressed flammable gas cylinders that are in storage and not in use. I was able to find NFPA 497 Figure 5.10.15 & 16 indicating requirements for cylinders in use. Does anyone know of any such requirement for cylinders not in use? Thank you.

The appropriate general reference Standard is NFPA 55 Compressed Gases and Cryogenic Fluids Code as referenced in NEC Section 500.4 in the INs. There are multiple considerations such as the number of tanks, actual compressed gas involved, etc. [EDIT ADD: Some of the results will have nothing to do with the electrical area classification.]

As we typically recommend, have a qualified person review the design.
