Commercial Kitchen GFCI

NEC 210, 2002 requires GFCI for all kitchen 15 and 20 amp 120V receptacles. We're under 1999 NEC, but have an owner that wants to know if this causes problems for any commercial equipment. Any comments?

This has definetly been a issue of great discussion. Technically, the maximum amount of current that can "leak" to ground in most appliances is limited to well below standard class A device trip settings. (4mA-6mA)

I have not yet had the pleasure of dealing with this requirement first hand, but I have heard of complaints about nuisance tripping for compressor operated equipment.

This is not a requirment under the 1999 version, only 2002. Owner that we work for have instructed us not to specify GFCI devices in the kitchen unless REQUIRED by code.
