I know there is something in one of the codes about color coding support wires for light fixtures and other items so they can be distinguished from the ceiling support wires.

Can someone point me to the details? I can't remember if this is always required on every project, or if there are exceptions.

OK, so that applies to support wires for conduits, fittings and boxes. Our specs usually required all-thread hangers, or something more substantial for those hangers - using wire isn't allowed.

I assume it does NOT apply to safety wires that are normally connected to light fixtures and other ceiling mounted equipment like speakers or fire alarm devices.
