Does the NEC (or any code) has any requirement for C I & II, D 1 locations where it requires the areas outside any opening (such as doors) to be classified? example; similar concept to paint spray booth where Locations within 3 feet of booth openings are class I, Div 2. Our application has explosive mixers (C I & II, D 1) and not sure if we need to provide classified luminaires when they are located just outside the doors, this include wall packs above the doors as well.

It’s not a specifically enumerated requirement outside Articles 511 to 516. That is, those are the only Articles that specify Classifications within their Scopes. However, Standards listed Section 500.4 Informational Notes give more general classification principles.

One thing to give special attention to is Subsection 500.5(B)(2)(3). Basically, in absence of a physical barrier, Class I, Division 1 locations must have an adjacent Division 2 location.
