I have 8'x7' room that handles 55-gallon barrels with acetone. The barrels get open for connection to the mixing tank that is normal operation. The room falls under Class 1 Div1 Art. 500.5 (B)(1).
Assuming adequate ventilation, what would be the extent of the classified area? Is it 3' bubble around the source or is it the entire room?
Can someone share thoughts? Many thanks in advance.

A few thoughts in no particular order

what led you to believe that it's class 1 division 1?

How did you determine there was adequate ventilation?

Generally there is a division two area immediately adjacent to the division one area.

In addition to post #2, I’d add that 8x7 is a pretty small area. It’s unlikely that the entire room wouldn’t have a single classification.

1. what led you to believe that it's class 1 division 1?

2. How did you determine there was adequate ventilation?

3. Generally there is a division two area immediately adjacent to the division one area.
1. The definition of Class 1 Div.1 as indicated in 500.5 - Presence of flammable liquid vapor under normal operating conditions., such as when the acetone barrels need to be changed or mixing tank needs to be open for maintenance or repair.
2. Mech Engineer checked it.
3. Correct, there is a Div 2 area adjacent to this one.
