Any pit,or box or space below grade level.
This shall be Class 1 Div.1

Comming out of the dispenser 18 inches above grade level is Class 1 Div. 2


Is this right? 514.3(B)(1)

Up to 18 inches above ground and within 20 horizontally from any edge including pits, trenches. Is Class 1 Div. 2


My question is?

I have the hand book and the picture in thier is confusing?
Is the entire pit Class 1 Div.1 or 2

If the top of my seal off is at grade level in the pit can I run Seal Tight or does it have to be horse cock to the dispenser?

P.S. I know that I have to have another seal off at the dispenser if I use either one.

Figure 514.3 of the 2002 NEC shows a good picture of this. I feel the entire pit is Div 1. If you are needing the flexibility of sealtight, once you emerge, you should be at the class 1 div 1 boundry and sealtight can be used.

One more thing, if in doubt, you are always allowed to put div 1 methods in div 2 areas.
