Other than the manufacturers specs, is there any code that prohibits the install of an electric wall heater in a residential bathroom?

I am looking to replace an outdated unit that currently sits 11" away from the bathtub, and 5" off the floor. The manufacturer does not mandate GFCI protection, would it make sense to do so? 120V/1500W heater.

Thanks.

there is no requirement or prohibition on electric heaters in bathrooms . You may find a manufacture specs that direct where one places it.

I believe there may be a manufacturers issue with 5" off the floor. I would check that before I would install it. Also make sure it is not behind a door.
