Motor is connected in delta at 230V 50 Hz and VFD is for 208V 50 Hz. For this configuration, the current for motor is shown 12.1 amps. If the input current to motor from VFD is increased beyond the nameplate current, wouldn't that hurt the motor?
What do you guys think about installing a step-up transformer, about 6 kVA, at the source feeding the 230V and keeping everything else the same. Will this fix the issue?
Another alternative is to program the VFD to operate at (208V/230V) x 50Hz = 45.2Hz to keep the same 4.6 volts/Hz ratio as with 230V and 50Hz. That way the motor will provide rated torque and draw about the same current as with 230V 50Hz. It obviously will run about 10% slower than if it had 230V 50Hz. But as it is now it may be slipping significantly because the torque capability at 208V is down to (208/230)² ≅ 0.818 of the torque at 230V 50Hz.
