Hello,

I don't quite understand section VIII of Article 230. How is it different from the proceeding sections of this article as far as voltage level of service conductors.
It seems that if the utility supply conductors from the pole are rated above 1000Volts, section VIII applies. For all the other scenarios, if the service conductors going from the pole or tapped off overhead line are less than 1000V, than the requirements of section I thru VII apply.

Can someone clarify this for me. I don't believe the code does a nice explanation on this, at least not the 2014 version of the code.

Not certain what you are asking but what you say is correct however section VIII is very short so only the parts that affect the conductors of over 1000 volts are in VIII. You still would have to conform to the other sections for the rest of the installation.
