The Code is not a retroactive document. With that said, you need to be aware of NFPA 70E and rules in your own area.

there is nothing in the code that says you must but there also is nothing that says you can't.I for one don't think it is a bad idea to put the warning labels on equipment.I have personally seen what a phase to phase fault on a 3000 amp service can do.(enough heat to melt 500mcm copper in less than 5 seconds)
