Is there an article in the NEC that discusses approved methods of pigtailing CU/AL in residential outlets where the house is wired with AL?

Yes, see section 110.3(B). There are several methods, not all of which work well. Go the achive sections and this forum and do a search for the topic, there have been several good posts on this topic.

Do yourself, (or the owner) a favor and talk with the local Inspectors. They may have their own opinion on what should be done and what they will pass. I say this because some areas use private agencies for Inspections and they may not want to certify the work unless it's done a certain way. That can become a problem when it comes time to sell a house.

I love this forum. so much to learn.
From my understanding these special wire nuts came available because we use to squeeze di-ox into ordianary wire nuts. The normal wire nuts were not UL listed to accept 2 differt types of conductors, Cu and Al. So they came out with these special wire nuts to accept them.
Is this correct?
