OK so if the 3 ft.measurment holds true does the 8 ft. hold true no matter how far from the tub edge.410 4 D says 3 and 8. :confused:

No, the restricted zone is the tub area and 3 ft outside the tub rim ,it is this way so someone standing on the tub rim does not hit a fan paddle or light.

Just imagine a large box which is laid on the top of the tub, and extends up and out. The box will have an upwards dimension of 8', and an outwards dimension of (tub width + 3').

If you have a hanging fixture that does not touch that box, you are ok. If it touches the box, you have a violation.

If you can, look at the 2002 NEC handbook, page 461 for a real nice picture.
