40 Amp Breaker for 20 Amp Oven

I am replacing a standard range fed with #8 wire on a 40 amp breaker. My new single wall oven only requires a 20 am circuit. Can I connect the new oven into the exisitng junction box with the #8 wire on the 40 amp breaker?
