Came acroos 12-2 with the bare copper wire in an attic running to a recessed lighting fixture. The fixture itself has a bare copper stranded wire attached to the metal fixture for the ground...we got stumped cause it didn't look right with a bare ground in a metal fixture so...what's the word, yay or nay? Thanks.

Per Section 250.119 of the NEC 2002, equipment grounding conductors shall be permitted to be bare, covered, or insulated.

Re: 12-2 bare copper in metal fixture?

I know that some types of romex come with bare or insulated copper ground, this romex has a bare copper ground...My question was having a bare copper ground in a metal fixture. I don't work with romex much...most of my work is commercial and all wire pulled through conduit is insulated green or bigger stuff is black and then marked as ground. That's why a bare copper wire in a metal lighting fixture didn't look right. Thanks for the clarification though and the article #.
