Can I extend conductors and use the 10 foot tape Rule?
I replaced a 150 amp water heater with a smaller 43 amp tank. The circuit that fed the old htr is a dedicated 150 amp breaker in an old motor control center with 1/0 conductors that are now too short. Can I extend/Tap the circuit with a 3 foot length of #6 conductors terminating into a 60 amp fused disconnect and then continue into the tanks fuse block enclosure. MCC does not have any spare buckets that I can use.
It is not a big deal (Just money) to extend the 1/0 conductors and install a 200a disconnect with fuse reducers, Just want to know if that is a legitamate use of the ten foot tap rule.

Yes you can do that.

But keep in mind if you run a wire EGC with the tap that the EGC size will be based on the 150 amp breaker. That applies until you get to the load side of the disconnect.

You could always terminate the 1/0 into a small 150 A panel giving you options for more branch circuits. always more tha one way to skin a cat
