Agent Orange finally came calling and I have been out of the business since 2010 .
Thought of all the help I had gotten in the past so asking for guidance
We are located in Texas
Our son has a mobile home that he wants to add circuits in a couple of rooms
He called an electrician out and they told him they would run 5 individual circuits
They are wanting to use underground wiring laid on top of the ground under the mobile home
1. There is new construction all around so rats and mice are carrying him off (got a couple of cats that has helped)
2. when it rains the ground under the home stays wet for a long time
3. concern of an animal getting under there as well as rats and tearing the wire up
I told him he needs to run 3/4 EMT and then run Romex inside of it and then punch up thru the wall
and make 5 different runs . I say 3/4 just for ease of pulling the romex
Business is booming so I know why electrician is trying to do it the simplest and way and save son as much money as he can
The guys heart is in the right place
Should we go with his advice and chance the rats will not bother it
Is there a better or simpler solution or suggestion
I agree with the son I do not like the idea of the wiring being exposed under the house
I have read thread after thread and did not find anything on running new circuits
If there is any I would appreciate you pointing me in that direction

Apparently they aren’t licensed electricians or planning on getting this inspected..
Put the cable in conduit strapped like it’s supposed to be..

with that being said, there’s the argument that the mobile home is a listed unit as is. Circuits aren’t supposed to be added. I have done it before and passed inspection. My circuits originated from the outdoor panel though.

You could be right but he is listed thru the city . Now, that is not to say there is not some good old boy stuff going on as it is a smaller town
Having said that .

I've never heard that one before, there are different set of codes specific to a mobile home covered in Article 550. AFA just laying the wire out under home as stated by OP, I dont see that meeting any code level, in fact it would be a violation of 550.15(H)(1)(2), in addition it being a mobile home means it could be potentially moved to another site and adding circuits in such a manner could result in damages from moving that could be unseen and cause safety issues when power restored at new site. So I agree do a proper installation or do none. From OP's statement of what the "electrician" said to do, he was no electrician.

I am going to give benefit of doubt on what the guy really wanted to do.
Maybe during the conversation something got missed such as "well, you can do anything like throw wire under there on the ground and not get caught" and son did not hear" not get caught" part.
When the power pole was set and connected that is one of the people the city gave as a person to get and he did an excellent job on that and correct
We will listen to you guys .
Rather than take a chance we found another guy that will do it correctly.
He has offered with my guidance to let the son run the Conduit and he will inspect it before any wire is pulled .
The electrician will run the wiring himself and do the connections.
