Morning fellas,

My client would like to reuse existing recessed lights. Currently fed from 120 volt source. The new feed is 277 volt. Originally the recessed lights were supposed to get replaced but budget concerns are becoming an issue. They want to know if lights can support 277 volts. Is the edison lamp base rated for 277?

Thanks

You can get 600V rated medium base sockets, but changing the socket on a fixture to something other than what it was listed with violates the fixture listing, so again, if the fixture is not listed for 277V, you can't use it.

Don't know what voltage HID lamps operate at, probably varies from one lamp to another to some extent, but I know they used different design on medium base sockets for higher withstand voltage on pulse start lamp types.

Might want to check the voltage rating on that limiter on the side, it prevents installation of too high of wattage lamps, it may only be rated for 120 volts.

110% of 277 is 305?
Nominal, and I think I should have said >300VAC.

This chart is about impulse testing levels for the different voltage classes, but it indicates where the divisions are. (Red highlights are not mine, it's part of the image).
