photo/ strip neutral /green tag scheduling w covid 19: doing it by email

need more power
What would Waldo do?

two scenarios
  1. keep existing periscope
    1. size unknown till Friday
    2. keep same location for 2 meter bank
    3. provide AMPERAGE of 225a for two units
      1. methods
      2. 2/0 Cu 225a
      3. Strip neutral (230.41)
      4. 1-1/2" RMC? if that is what we have
      5. or provide AMPERAGE of 200a
      6. 1/0 Cu 200a
      7. Strip neutral
      8. 1-1/4" RMC
  2. new periscope, new location [230.90 & 230. 6]
    1. provide AMPERAGE of 280-300a
    2. [3] 4/0 Cu 200a
    3. [1] Strip neutral
    4. 2" or 2-1/2" RMC

If I have to put it on the front of the house, I would prefer to have just the two meter bank [400a]
as small as possible.
Then mount the disconnects inside the bldg some four feet, but I have a feeling that is going to be a tough sell.
The 400a combo 2meter banks are pretty big
Size: 9.00" x 28.79" x 30.63"

Without the discos they are smaller.

Waldo would call a qualified Electrical Contractor.

I don't think PG&E would except the proposed locations.

2/0 for 225 amps? 1/0 for 200 amps? Neither are NEC compliant. Although if this is a supply to multiple service disconnects the conductors can be sized by the calculated load.

Why do you want to strip the neutral?

PGE proposed those locations.
The photo is from their engineer

Inside tradesman door breezeway four feet. I fought to have it there bit PGE now requires it be on exterior wall pref in public right of way.
Service conductors entering the bldg

if we replaced In kind, they would’ve permitted a Knox box, but now it has to be on the front.

used to be the estimator would visit and see the common sense location, but now the approvals come from Sacramento with out care for the existing neighborhood or the historical period.

Btw the top of that window is the other neighbor’s And is openable

I am not real clear on the details, but it seems you have an existing 1.5 RMC conduit to reuse if possible? One option is to do the old parallel conductor trick which gets your more ampacity/less size even after derating. I am showing (4) 1/0 and a #2 THHN fitting in 1.5 RMC = 272 amps. Use that with bare and reduced neuter might get you there. That #2 I threw into the calculator was largest THHN that would keep it under 40%. , I didnt track down bare size so you can go a few sizes bigger to 1/0 or 2/0. I have heard rumors of compressed copper conductors exising, but not sure what it would take to get it.
