OK. i'm done with paper shredders. the HSM i have
has eaten one too many nickels stuck to spam asking
for money to save the children, or the unborn gay whales,
or whatever it is they want us to fund.

I have spoken with the CFO on this, my spouse, as to our donation level
in dollars, and i am going to divert the price of a paper shredder
from our total charitable contributions this year.

both are equally tax deductible, and if the charitable people are
sad at having to buy me a new paper shredder, it's their own fault.

THEY are the reason they don't get to have nice things. not my problem.

now, i need suggestions for a kick butt paper shredder. i don't think a sodium
powered one needing a cooling tower is needed, but it needs to be able to eat
junk mail unopened, including the nickels. it needs to run long and last, as i
don't want to buy another one, and i don't see the junk mail ending any time soon.

so i want to be able to feed a closed envelope a quarter inch thick into it, with one
of those nickel depth charges embedded within it, and have it make the same gesture
morpheus made in the matrix, when he motioned to "bring it".

so... anyone got a suggestion for a paper shredder?

Whats your budget? I recent purchased an Amazon basic 12 sheet shredder for $99 and so far it has been great.

Royal 15mx here.... 15 sheet, crosscut. Will chew up CDs and credit cards with ease. Have had it for 12-15 years now... no issues.

Then again, I don't feed it pocket change either.....

I hooked one up many years ago, 200 amp 480 volt, shreds loose paper around a foot thick by three feet wide at the rate of ten foot a minute, If I remember correctly. Too big? LOL!

Perhaps you could pre-screen the junk mail with a metal detector to find any coins first.
I'd recommend a continuous duty shredder because any you can get in the usual office supply stores will time out after any extended use.

No claim to shred coins but paper clips are no problem, and comes in various sizes and resulting particle size:
You might try shopping around for a better price.

55 gallon barrel with top cut out and holes punched around the bottom. Add reams of paper, lighter fluid, and lit match. Doubles as a campfire. Hobos are extra. Adding a metal screen over the top after ignition will keep CalFire from naming a spark ignited blaze after you.

Here ya go.

I've hooked a few of these up. One turned a 16' 2x8 treated into toothpicks without slowing down. Didn't phase it a bit.

as have i. truth be told, i'm sitting here wearing a muffin monster T shirt right now. honest to god truth.

i found this in huntington beach, but its a bit over the top.... but it would be a hell of a start...

i'm looking at this point a used commercial one that has an oil feed, like a fellows 425, but what i want isn't lining up with
reasonably what i'm gonna be willing to pay. the CFO was disturbed when the HSM shredder she watched blow up
earlier this afternoon, and i put it in the garbage, she found out sells for $575 currently. it made a fork in the garbage disposal sound, and
that was without anything in it, just idling. it's never been right since the bad nickel episode.

nothing will eat nickles except the muffin monster, and it really needs a 6" feed for inflow from the bar screen room.

My mom found out the hard way that paper shredders can't handle Tyvek envelopes.

I had to disassemble it beyond screws to separate the shredder rollers to get it clean.

All I read was you need a paper shredder, buy a barrel, burn it and never worry about your breaker tripping, motor burning out, it fitting....
put it on bricks if your worried about your yard.

But in Cali, thats as big of a sin (not being homeless, but having a burning barrel) as buying a big gulp in New York! LOL! I call it my thermal recycler! LOL!

Just go across state line and burn there

yeah, that doesn't go well at all. the eating a nickel episode required that level of
disassembly, and that is when i found things badly bent and askew. i straightened
as much as i could, but bent drive teeth are difficult to straighten.

This one will take care of the heaviest envelopes.
