Installed some canopy modules that run off just one wire back to the [dual] device and control the fan and some lights.

There is very little info available about what actually goes on inside these and I don't want to tear into one not that I could tell anyway.

I guess there is some kind of PLC (Power Line Control) going on with the hot wire between the device and canopy module.

I suspect the lamp dimmer is a trailing edge electronic type.

The 7 speed fan control is more mysterious. Do they have a stack of capacitors in there being switched various ways or what?

In this case it is a MIR-LFQMT-WH

I peeked inside the canopy module...it appears to have some triacs or other semiconductors going to the light wire. I can't identify for sure but one says bta06-600tw and the other says 130-082 both made by ST. Probably not important what they are but what they do. There is also an inductor with heavy windings nearby.

There are 4 caps ranging from 2.2 to 9.0 on the board so I bet that is the 7 speed fan thing. I am surprised they all fit in there.

But still wondering about how the light dimmer actually works, for compatibility with all these newfangled lamps these days.
