Good day! I was just wondering if it's okay to install a 150W MH lamp to w/ SODIUM BALLAST for 150W HPS? I know it doesn't comply with the code(does it?), but is this safe? :D

Thanks a lot!

Have you even tried it to see if it will light the lamp? I bet it doesn't. As mentioned such lamps and ballasts are designed to match one another and few work with anything but the lamp they are designed for. Some MV lamps will work on certain MH ballasts, but that is about it for more then one lamp type being suitable for a particular HID ballast.

Put in the correct lamp. Even if it works for a while it'll probably prematurely fail. Next electrician (why may be you) goes up to fixture, replaces now incorrect bulb with the same, problem repeats.

Some manufacturers do have retrofit lamps that will work in situations where you want to use the benefits of one kind of lamp but have a different ballast.
We've used some MH lamps made to run on HPS ballast before.
I remember that average hours were listed slightly less than for standard lamps.
