I was replacing the wall anchors on some equipment in my apartment.
The j-box in the wall was recessed 3/4" below the drywall leaving a gap between back of drywall and top edge of j-box.
It is my understanding a plaster ring is required. Are plaster rings made that can be installed without disconnecting the wiring to the equipment?

Yes they can be installed over the device. You need to unscrew the device and fold back the wires to get it over the device.

To the OP, what Dennis posted is typically called an extension ring or a box extender, not a plaster ring.

To the gentleman asking about 2-gang, yes they do make it. Arlington makes the BE1, BE2, BE3, etc.

True but I think the OP was referring to these. That was my guess. He was trying to fill the gap.

They do make them in up to 4 gang and their are metal ones also made by Raco. The one I posted was by Arlington

type of box

type of box

Infinity,
the box is a 4" x 4" x 1-3/4" metal with a plate that transitions the box opening to a standard 2"x4" size to accommodate a face-plate.
The box is aligned with the j-box of the utilization equipment; however, there is the gap as mentioned earlier. I really did not want to disconnect the wires.

thanks for the reply. My professional work usually does not have me dealing with the details of assembly regarding these boxes. So, regardless of the name or my terminology usage - the key to my question is the functionality I seek. The necessary function is to extend the box so that it either is flush with or slightly recessed from the outer surface of the drywall; additionally, I'm hoping to find a part that does not require me to disconnect the wiring to the equipmnet ( a baseboard heater) in order to install the part. I hope I am not asking for too much!
