Side feed withe a 100 amp

Side feed withe a 100 amp

I have run into a similar situation

On a 100 amp panel replacement,,,
A physically larger panel is needed to cove the hole in the wall.

I will order a 200 amp "contractors-combo-pack" that has a 200 amp main and several 20,and 30 breakers,

Then remove the 200 amp main( keep for later job) a person cannot mistake a improperly sized main if it is not there.

Then install a 100 amp side fed with tiedown screw.

fashion a breaker blank out of 1900 blank, and install with two self-tappers.

If a 100amp breaker is upstream of the 200amp MB panel, Then the 200 main is a "dunsel" service disconnect and not an overcurrent protection device. The average electrical understands the concept, but the average HI has obtained all of his authoratative compulsion(usually accompanied with a "little big man complex") from a book written by a someone else who has obtained his experiance from a book.

I did email Schneider Electric, who bought out Square D several years ago, to ask about the listing but so far have not received a response. So anyway, I am running 4/0 Al instead.

Schneider Electric bought Square D more than 20 years ago.

You want a 200A frame with a 100A trip, if you want to physically replace your existing breaker. Or, as others have said, you could remove your existing breaker and put in a filler plate in the trim then back feed a standard QO with a hold down kit.

You cannot purchase a 100A main breaker panel swap the mains, as the main is only a 100A frame and therefore a different size.

Also, as previously mentioned, pay attention to the AIC requirements (in this area all services must be fully, or series, rated to 22kA as a minimum).

Thanks for the replies. I talked to the AHJ and he said he would not approve it unless I could confirm the 100A breaker was listed for use in the 200A panel. He didn't think it would be. It is a QO 200A panel. First, no one in my immediate area had a 100A QO main breaker and on further inspection the two breakers are different size physically and it looks like it would not fit anyway. I did email Schneider Electric, who bought out Square D several years ago, to ask about the listing but so far have not received a response. So anyway, I am running 4/0 Al instead.

QOM2100VH is the catalog number they also have a 125 amp unit in the larger frame.

The smaller frame catalog number is QOM100VH.
