Occasionally for old-work, 2X3 studs, and stuff like that.

I like them for wood lather and horse-hair plaster applications.

And the obvious one, old MC/AC/BX situations where I need a metal box.

Does anyone still use the old-school metal switch boxes? If so, for what applications?

How about using them in "old school's"

I typically only use them for fished MC/AC cable to flush devices. They will be boxes with plaster ears and usually F clamps for securing.

I guess I have used them a lot with NM cable when fished in plaster with wood lathe, but have found some non metallic old work boxes that seem to work reasonably well more recently.
