I am doing a bathroom rehab and have not bought the 2014 NEC to see what is needed...

Do I need AFCI on lighting circuits?

Bath exhaust fan.. does it need GFCI protection??

Anything I am missing... fire away...

The 2014 still excludes bathrooms from the afci requirement. So none is needed for the lights or fans in the bath areas.

Here is the appropriate article

Dennis has the answer to your question covered already, but I just want to add that you can view the 2014 NEC (and all of NFPA's other standards) on NFPA's website for free. You have to sign up for a free account and log in to be able to view it, and the viewer is tedious to use, but if you just need to check one section like this it can be quite useful. It definitely won't replace buying your own copy (which I think is kind of the point of making it tedious to use), but it's an option in the meantime, before you go out and buy it.

Once you give NFPA your information they will bombard you with emails and junk mail worse than most other places that send me that crap, but what do you do if you want to use much of anything on their website? They send me enough solicitations for NFPA membership, I think they could just about afford to give me free membership if they just saved the cost of sending me the solicitations.:(

Not sure.. too many towns and villages make their own rules.. I

I have to check with inspector yet..
Don't mean to sound condescending, but you need to know the rules where you plan to work, including which version of the NEC applies.

Don't you have a separate email address for spam? I have one specific email address with yahoo.com (it's free and you can have as many as you want) that I give to any business or website that wants it. It gets nothing but spam, but what do I care?

The instructions of the fan may require GFCI protection if it is being installed above a shower.

Yes I have a hotmail account that I give for such inquiries. But sometimes there is also mail there that is not spam so I still have to sort through the messages to determine what is good and what is junk. If you register for something at a site you may get return correspondence that you are looking for, but same address still goes into their files for sending out future solicitations and such. Same goes for telephone numbers. My home number gets used for phone even with some legitimate parties that I do business with on a regular basis. They can leave me a message if something is important enough and I can call back if I so desire, but depending on who and what they are they may not be getting my cell phone number. If I received as many marketing calls on the cell phone as the home phone receives I would never get anything done if I answered all of them.

I am not one of those people that pulls my phone out every few minutes while I am working, if it is not important I don't want to know about it immediately. I honestly don't know how some people ever get anything done that pull their phone out every few minutes. I also don't know how they can possibly survive should they lose their phone or should it stop working, it seems like it would be like telling them they are not allowed to breathe anymore.

I thought the reason for a forum was to ask questions.. if I had all the answers.. why would I be here.. :)
Well since you asked:) you must not have the answer to that question either, how about - to answer other's questions:happyyes:

Here's something even better!

You just make up a name, any name, and use mailinator.com as the @ part.
Example: jackinthebeanstalk@mailinator.com

Then go to the site and type the name you chose and it will show the mail you received.
This is not a private thing, so don't use it for something you wouldn't want everyone to see. Also you can't send emails form it, only receive. But it is good if you only need to provide an email address when signing up for something.

Here's the link: http://www.mailinator.com/

It won't be long before spammer/scammers catch on to that.

I have 6 email addresses. One I check daily, one I have but I have yet to use it at all. Would be fun to go see if there's any spam at all. One that used to be my main address, but I still use it for all official billing websites. A couple I made up for old AOL chat rooms.

Anyway, sorry to spin off the main topic of this thread.
