Is a neutral required by code?

In an industrial building, Im running a feed for a 225A main panel from an MDP. The panels intended use is for single phase 240 volt equipment only. Does the code still require that a neutral conductor to be pulled from the MDP to the new panel?

IF you do decide to install a neutral, take a look at 215.2 for sizing

Is there a chance you or someone else would need a neutral in the future?
It is always easier to pull everything at once rather than re-pull it 2 years from now.

I think most of us would agree with that and Gus' comment was spot on if they decide to run a neutral --it needs to be sized at least as large as the equipment grounding conductor even if there was only a 1 amp load on the neutral.

Spent all morning running pipe and pulling wire into a panel only to notice that it didn't have a neutral. Yes my fault and I will admit it, but every other panel in the whole place had one except for the panel I needed to use.

I have seen 2 installs of a straight 240v panel for heating where another electrician came in and used the equipment grounding conductor as the neutral. :happyno:
