I see that the new code has expanded the area's requiring AFCI's in dwelling units to include kitchens and laundry rooms. So on a kitchen counter, you now need to have GFCI and AFCI protection. Correct?

Assuming this is correct what about in a kitchenette in a commercial building. Like a break room with a sink and counter top?

The AFCI requirement would not apply here as it only relates to dwelling units and dorms. Of course the GFCI would apply to receps within 6' of the sink. But, yes, in a dwelling you will need both AFCI and GFCI on a number of branch circuits.
