Hello All,

I can't seem to locate lighted EXIT signs that have a means to be hung from chains. I need to hang a dozen signs from chains in hallways but all of the signs that I can find do not have a means for attaching a chain or even connecting a cable. They all contain surface mounting plates that get attached to the side or top of the sign.
Has anyone found signs dedicated to hanging?

Nope

I have used 3/8" threaded rod down to round box to support the sign to. Tie wrap MC down the threaded rod to feed the fixture. You could pipe down if you wanted to.

We have also hung a 1' long section of unitstrut by two jack chains and had that support the box and light. This is common in all the Lowes around me.

When we did an HD and had to hang exit signs, they were the two sided plastic ones with a KO on top. Drilled holes on each end and used machine screws/nuts to attach the chain to each side. MC cable down the chain right into the top, no big deal.

An easy fail for a listing violation if the inspector feels like it.

You just need to decide how you want to support the box. Threaded rod, jack chain, strut, pendant, etc, etc.... Then simply mount the sign to the box. I have never, in 20 years, even considered trying to hang just the exit sign without a box.

It took me a while but I found an exit sign that looks to maybe meet my needs and its U.S. made.

The instruction sheet shows that you can run conduit directly into the sign. Is it safe to assume MC would be allowed too? Or maybe even SJ cord?
I like a clean look and a 4" round on top of a canopy designed for surface mount looks so misplaced.

Not trying to burst your bubble, but the instructions say "When installing directly to conduit from the top..." It does not say it can be "mounted" to the conduit. See mounting instructions. I assume this would be an example of a surface-run conduit into a wall-surface-mounted unit.

I asked them the same question. Its for hanging the sign. They sell a pendant kit.
