For a permanant installation, Kohler is the quietest, then Onan, and at the back of the pack, Generac, If you want a balance between cost and quiet, go with Onan, If cost is the only criteria, then Generac.

Hello HillBilly1,
Good advice that I will heed.
I was looking at the reviews and have installed quite a few Generacs and believe you nailed it when you said Generac was at the back of the pack.
Does Kohler and Onan make an air cooled 3,600 rpm that is reliable?
Thanks,

I have had good luck with the Kohler 14KW or 20KW...but you need to have a dealer do the startup. With the gererac I did the startup myself.

What do you recommend/use for liquid cooled?

Onan is used extensively in the RV industry, I think they even have 1800 rpm air cooled models, I have a 5 KW in my motorhome, but haven't thought to look to see which it is. The Onan units I have installed came from Costco if I remember correctly, haven't done an Onan or Kohler air cooled in a while. The Kohlers were leased residential units from the local POCO.
