2008 nec article 250.146 B

ok lets look at this. simple outlet in wall. 2 wire ac cable to box adapter ring on box. sheet rock wall,

useing self grounding device. does the device have to be bonded to box if there is no metal to metal contact from device to adapter.

The self grounding receptacle is permitted to be used without an additional jumper when screwed to a grounded metal adapter cover.

The screw penetrates the yoke then spring on the back of the yoke and the screw inserts into the box and completes the bond.


The same thing would apply in 25o.146(A) when you remove the insulating washer off of a regular receptacle. When the screw is drawn up and contacts the box the bond is complete.

Sorry I should have said completes the ground for the receptical not the bond.
