Last week we had a new pool installation. Jandy sub panel - 3 pumps - heater - chlorinator - blower for hot tub - pool lights - etc. We normally drive a ground rod at sub panel and connect it to ground bar and pool equipotential grid. At inspection the inspector asked why was ground rod driven and where in code dose it say this can be done ? I asked where dose it say I cant ? Inspector made us remove D-nut from ground rod for us to pass inspection. Sub panel is fused @ 60a from house panel and fed W/4 #6 thhn (2 circuit conductors , 1 neutral and 1 ground)

Is the pool panel at a separate structure or is at the the same building where the feeder originates. If it is remote from the building then a ground rod is req. Look at 250.32

Required or not it is never prohibited.

250.54 Auxiliary Grounding Electrodes. One or more
grounding electrodes shall be permitted to be connected to
the equipment grounding conductors specified in 250.118
and shall not be required to comply with the electrode
bonding requirements of 250.50 or 250.53(C) or the resistance
requirements of 250.53(A)(2) Exception, but the
earth shall not be used as an effective ground-fault current
path as specified in 250.4(A)(5) and 250.4(B)(4).

You need the ground rod, but please, don't waste your time bonding the equipotential grid to the ground rod... the pool is already in the ground, bonding to a ground rod will accomplish nothing.

Yes , I agree and understand , but is it OK to have the pool bond wire (pool motors , heater , equipotential bonding grid , etc. ) connected to the same ground rod ?

Sure, it is already connected via the egc of the pump motor, if the gec is run from the panel.

"I asked where dose it say I cant ?" That is the correct answer!

It is crap that any inspector makes you prove ANYTHING. It is his job to PROVE things!

Telling you to remove something(s) is very dangerous for him to say. Write that down NOW. Inspectors should never tell you 'how' do do things, as much as we would like to help at times.

Bob hit the nail on the head, whether required or not you can install as many ground rods (auxiliary grounds) as you like.
