got over to work today to put in a cat 6 LAN.

the existing lan had the rack ripped out, and dangling cable thru a 2" sleeve
thru the t bar.

needed to be toned out, punched down, and certified.

the "construction workers" who were doing the suite build out,
instead of pulling the cat 6 back up thru the sleeve, leaving it
above the ceiling, and removing the sleeve as directed,
cut all the cat 6 above the ceiling line.

i've just had it with people who act like illiterate peasants.

when i explained they had just ruined all the cable drops,
they laughed, and went out to have lunch.

oh, yeah... the 2,000' of cat 6, new in the unopened boxes?
that was sitting in the room right underneath the cables they
destroyed..... they stole that after cutting the cables.

illiterate, stupid, don't give a crap people.

welcome to america. land of the "but they were half the
price of someone who knows what they are doing."

vent closed again. pressure still building, however.
sometimes, i've just had it with the human race.
at least the ones i seem to have to deal with.

Leaving materials on site, unattended means your donating to their "beer fund"? Any chance for a back charge? That would take smile off their face.:D Except for for the cost some T-shirts made for them, having a finger point upwards with "I with stupid", would be fitting.

I would be on the phone to who ever your customer is, or who hired you and have a change order at the ready, no way would I take a hit like that, the extra money it takes to replace these lans would most defiantly come out of that crews pay if that was done around here.

the customer is my financial planner. he's a friend, and a good guy. we've already talked about it.
he's moving into a larger office, so he can make me richer, faster.

i'll go in tomorrow and make a detailed look see for the boxed cat 6, and then just say to the crew doing
the work that i'm gonna be back in two hours, and if the cable is back, it's none of my business where it
went or who brought it back, but that if it isn't back, i call the customer, and he takes $250 off the pay out
for the TI to the top of the food chain, the owner of the company these guys work for,
as it was HIS cable that got stolen, not mine.

that should solve the problem. either the whole crew gets put under suspicion, or it gets returned.
it'll get put back. i have confidence in the innate goodness of people, especially when their job is on the line.

as for the cable being cut, mention of that will be made in an appropriate manner. truth is, we didn't think
any of it was useable till we got in and looked at it, and then it just turned out we were right, after all, for
the stupidest of reasons.

I would take odds that the cable is gone for good. To do something like that, they have no respect for themselves already, much less anything else. I may be surprised so let us know.

chicken little published before her research was complete... turns out it was in the opposite corner of the suite,
behind ceiling tile...

got over there this afternoon, and everything is cabled now. punch down and certify tomorrow afternoon...
high bay work somewhere else in the morning, before it gets hot.... then afternoon delight in air conditioning.

seems i was just cranky yesterday, and the cat 6 being cut off just did it for me. at least it wasn't 250 foot runs.

awash in idjits, we press onward...... :p

The boy who cried wolf.:) Happens to everyone. I learned to quit saying somebody stole something, because for me it usually turns out somebody just moved it or borrowed it or I just plum forgot where I left it.

In the days before networking (each run had to go back to the controler) I ran several thousand feet of cable for a bunch of new offices. Each office had four runs so that they could set up the office any way they wanted, so I made a map and tagged each cable, 1A, 1B, 2A, etc and left plenty of slack in the controller room so that they would reach anywhere in there. Two days after I'm finished I get a call that they have no idea where the cables go and they want me to show them. No problem the cable was in a big roll on the floor, they probably just didn't see it. No, they had cut all the cables short to hook them to the controller and had never looked. I had to ring out about 80 runs, because "that wasn't their job".

nope. alls good that ends good....

I've always liked "All's well that ends." and leave it at that. Glad it worked out for you.

(At a job in Virginia some time back, some nice fellows decided to move most of our data cable to another room and bury it behind boxes of flexi-duct, then claim ignorance about it. Didn't help that they'd also pssed off one of the sprinkler fitters, who ratted them out. It helps to be friendly.)
