Don't know who you talked to, but Siemens took over support for almost all of the Robicon low voltage drives, and they do still sell low voltage drives. Siemens mainly wants to sell Siemens Simatic low voltage drives now which are brand-labeled as Siemens/Robicon W Series for the water / wastewater market, but they still do support the old Robicon G Series drives.
For about 1 year before their demise as a stand-alone company, Robicon's parent company bought an Italian VFD company called Ansaldo Sistemi Industriali (ASI) because they wanted the old Ross Hill MV drive customer base that ASI had purchased in receivership a few years prior. But the ASI LV drive was an unmitigated disaster and Robicon never got it off the ground. They may however have release a small number of those disaster drives right before their parent company went bankrupt and that may be what your friend experienced. But I'd be surprised if there were even 100 of those released with a Robicon nameplate on them.
Siemens made Robicon's parent kill that ASI deal before they bought Robicon way back when, so Siemens never had any connection to that disaster.
