Was having a discussion with some co-workers last week regarding a receptacle installed for a permanently installed pool pump. Why is the receptacle required to be of the single and locking type if it's between 6'-10' of the pool? My guess was that so that it can only be used for the pool pump and nothing else but if you move it out past 10' then the single/locking requirement disappears. Doesn't seem to make much sense.

The only reason I can think of is the locking type receptacle will less likely loss the egc connection and if it did then you could potential touch the pump and the water with the long metallic strainer tools. I would think all the cord connected pools should have a locking type receptacle.

My guess is that nothing BUT the pool pump gets plugged into this dedicated receptacle so close to the pool, I know were only talking 4 feet, but I'm sure its an issue...
