I'm trying to repair a dumbwaiter, after replacing the reversing contactor, the motor will still not reverse, or go down. It stays in the forward or up direction.Any ideas?

You did not get the wires connected properly on the the contactors. Assuming 3 phase the line connection on contactor one should be abc and contactor two should be cba. Single phase will reverse the two start winding leads in relationship to the run windings. (Danged if I can remember the #s right now. Getting old sucks.) Be ready to throw the safety switch because you may not have the direction of travel in correct relation to the limit switches. Breaks the hell out of things...or so I understand.

You have not described the switch that controls the dumb waiter. Is it momentary or maintain? How old is this dumb-waiter?

It seems like there is more than one contactor in the controls or a limit switch has something to do with reversing the motor.
