F48T12 Slimline (single pin) 39 watt

I was called out to a small convince store to give a price on repairing the door lights for a product display cooler.

To my surprise I found that they have the above type fixtures in them and a lamp between each door and one on each end for a total of 8 lamps, the first 4 are glowing purple, the last 4 only has one lamp lit so maybe just lamps, but owner is saying that they are not lasting as he is changing them on a weekly bases.

First I have never seen a slimline type fixture used in a cold environment, most coolers around here would have F48T12HO type lamps.

I know the new F96T8 electronic fixtures are good down to 0 deg. F and have a very high output while using less energy, which would be a perfect retrofit if they made them in a 48" version, but for the life of me I can not find any 48"T8 single pin or electronic ballast for even a 48" T12 slimline/single pin.

Has anyone run across this problem? If so what was the answer?

Also all the magnetic ballast I find are 2 lamp, and I think these are 4 lamp???:?

4 foot slimline are popular around here in 2 lamp strip lights but that is about it.

These are built into the cooler and its about as old as the building (70's)ish

Well I located 2 electronic ballast and 8 F48T12's which is about as far as I'm going to go with this, sent him a proposal for 685.00 so we will see how far I get, normally I would not bid a job like this as you never know what you will find, so i'm hitting it high as a fall back, it's not going to be easy to get tto even the ballast.

Thanks for the input, as I have never ran into single pin system used in a cooler before.

I really don't like coolers either....

It seems I spend more time trying to figure out if I need to pull product off the shelves to get at the light and ballast or do I need to open the door and reach around or do I go inside the cooler and reach over the shelves and try to get at it? Then there are customers constantly trying to get something out of the cooler you're working in.....:rant:

Not fun!

to the above in red.
was changing out a HO ballast once and was trying to be careful, a customer was reaching in and I accidentally touched her hand and she freaked out, dropped several glass bottles, and went screaming all the way out the door, kind of freaked me too.:ashamed1:

If I were that customer I could see myself having a similar reaction. But then again if your hands weren't too rough I might like it.

JMO but owner needs to look into new unit. Will probably save enough energy to pay for itself in reasonable time. Not just because of lighting either. The newer unit will be more efficient and probably better insulated.
