Thanks Augie. I assumed I might have to use some 1900 boxes or the shallow depth old work boxes (plastic).
This one really snowballed!
Replacing a panel and ALL the devices? Yikes!
And what if it had been one of those calls from distant friends, asking for help troubleshooting over the phone?
Anyway, here's what I found and you've probably all seen before:
1) One tandem breaker had melted right off the bus bar, so they need a new panel. That was the cause of two circuits not working.
2) About 2/3 of the receptacles are melted/burned and the ones that aren't won't hold a plug.
Those self clamping receptacles and switches go bad frequently, someone just left them and plugged in somewhere else, all those burned receptacles probably didn't suddenly all go bad at the same time.I have seen a lot of bad connections where the CB connects to the bus but not multiple melted/burned receptacles. What would cause that in multiple locations?
