I think we discussed this before but what's some of your thoughts on "Smart Power Saver"? My son put one in one of his restaurants and seem a drop of 19% on energy used. Would this be something a home owner would be interested in?

I seriously doubt that. How was this value determined? Does he have a year's worth of electric bills before installing the device, and another year's worth afterwards? Did the electric company, in fact, charge him less money per month for the same month of the year, after the device was installed? Were there any other changes in the restaurant anywhere close to the same time frame, something that might have accounted for a drop in energy usage, something like replacement of an inefficient cooking appliance or simply a drop in the number of customers? If you dig deeper into the story, I strongly suspect that you will find that he is not getting any savings in his electric bill that can be attributed to this device.

Not to mention the possibility that the restaurant owner may have subconsciously changed his habits.

Residential customers do not pay a penalty for bad power factor so power factor correction capacitors (What this smart power saver really is) will not in any way reduce the power bill for a homeowner. This is nothing but snake oil.

What is is with plumbers, anyway? Not only do they make more money than electricians, they don't have to put up with scammers trying to sell their customers water tanks by telling them that they will save water.

I just heard of someone mentioning those magnets that take the place of a water softener the other day. They are not cheap, don't know if they do what they claim or not.

Wife was talking to a neighbor the other day - they have a "prayer box" that if they have a sick, injured, or otherwise friend or relative in need of help they write their name on a piece of paper and place it in the box and it somehow sends positive energy to help that person. You don't even have to say any prayer yourself you just have to put the name in the box. And this neighbor believes that it works. Why didn't I start selling these a long time ago?
