Yes thank you dennis and stick boy....

I understand protecting the breaker at 80% of it's rating Unless the breaker is rated for 100%. My question was in concern to laying out the circuit relative to the 80 or 100%... So lay out the circuit for 100 %,
unless it's a continuos duty load then lay it out for 80 % unless it's a 100 % rated breaker then you could stick something else on it maybe to get to the 100%.....ha ha ha ha...

Thanks guys .......

I actually did a 600 amp feeder to some switchgear with a main breaker........upon mentioning about the 80% thing and the way their engineers designed the job, well they gave me the ok to switch out the internals of the breaker with
100% rated internals. The 80% internals are now a $600 paper weight in my shed.

Thanks again guys.

What kind of breaker did you have where you can do that?

In residential, The only thing I consider continuous is an electric water heater, and electric heat.

Don't forget air conditioning. It runs longer than heat sometimes. But the 125% factor is built into the nameplate MCA so we usually don't even think about it.

Sorry kwired......I just looked high and low for it but couldn't locate it. It was floating around for the last 15 to 20 yrs.....(I don't use it as a paper weight). I "may" have tossed it out on the last shed douching last year.

It was the section on a 3 pole 480v breaker under the handle where you can set for adjustable trip (installed it like heater elements on a starter but it was one unit).

I would be guessing, but Westinghouse, followed by GE, followed by Seimens...is coming to mind.

Sorry I couldn't clarify this for you.

GREAT.........now everytime I'm in there (the shed) I'm going to look for it.

I'll keep this post in mind and if it turns up I'll let you know.

Sorry.

That is just

That is just

That is just like water pump. The one replay is right on the water pump. It work's backward's to thought.
A casing water pump work's that way. If you live in the upper midwest, where it can get -30 for 8-week's,
somtimes the pipe frezzes underground, and that is what an electrican find's, when they call that they don't
have water. Nice Ques.
Take Care.
