Existing room that has refeers for immunization, all refeers are on Emergency system, this I assume because of the red hospital grade recepts and the plates marked Emergency. My question is because I have to add a dedicated 120V 20A circuit in this room for another refeer can I run this circuit in regular MC? Something tells me no becasue all I ever see is pipe or flex here but wanted help from hospital gurus please. And if not where does it say. Thanks.

You are right, you can not use MC or any flexible wiring method, see 517.30(C)(3) (This is asuming this is a healthcare facility that is under the requirements of 517.30)

So if this isn't under 517.30 then would you think the regular MC would be legal? This is a medical clinic on a military installation with a normal and alternate power source with an emergency system. This facility serves as a small hospital if you will, but I do not believe it meets the definiton of a "Hospital" as defined in the NEC. Defintion of Hospital is a building or portion thereof used on a 24-hour basis for the medical, psychiatric, obstetrical, or surgical care of four or more inpatients. I don't believe its a 24-hour facillty, I will check on that though. It does have an Emergency entrance too, so maybe it qualifies? What do you think based on what I said?

At the least it's a medical clinic, it's not open 24 hours so I dont believe it's a hospital by nec definition. It has an essential electrical system so at the least 517.45 would put you right back to 517.30 and again the mc cable wouldn't be allowed right? I'm pretty certain 517.30 still applies just trying to see the full picture.

I would agree with you.
