Otis Elevator "GEN2" Elevator

Have any of you had experience with the Otis Elevator GEN2 elevator. Supposedly it generates electricity on the downward travel of the elevator and returns the excess to the building power supply.

I assume this would have to be set up like a PV system so that it could be disconnected during an event that the power would need to be shut off.

Any insite would be welcome.

One problem that comes to my mind is that it can cause over speeding of any generator powering the lift.So over speed protection is necessary to the generator.

Hello Ed Otis Gen 2 controller and machine equipment is designed as a complete unit by them which from my knowledge requires normal motor control disconnects. If it a machine room less installation then additional disconnects are reguired. All of the regeneration and controlling of it is an integral part of the controller. If you contact Otis Elevator they can provide you with an architects manual for this installation. Also if you are the contractor for the project they will give you a ton of paper work as to their requirements.
