I just got this E-Mail from Econo-Light and a simular one from RUUD:

To: All e-conolight customers

The lighting industry is facing an issue that will soon affect the cost of every fluorescent lamp that you will purchase. The key components in the manufacture of the phosphors that make fluorescent lamps possible are composed of several metals that are commonly referred to as "rare earth". Essentially, the world's supply of all of these rare earth metals come from China. This permits the Chinese government to tightly control and heavily tax these critical materials. In the past few months they have used this monopoly power to implement tight quotas on the availability of these materials. This in turn has caused the cost of these compounds to rise by more than 2000 percent during the past several months.

The net result is that effective August 1st, 2011 e-conolight will be increasing the price of our linear fluorescent lamps sold in case quantities. At this point in time we will hold the pricing on linear fluorescent fixtures sold with fluorescent lamps installed for as long as we possibly can. This will also be true for compact fluorescent lamps (CFL). You can be assured that we are making every effort to minimize the effect on you, but given the uncertainty in the market these prices are subject to change.

Please visit www.e-conolight.com/lamp-prices to download the most recent linear fluorescent lamp prices. Our website is the best source for the most up-to-date information. We will do our best to keep you informed.

Sincerely,
The e-conolight Team

Has anyone else heard about this?
