Folks,

We have a test forum to play with, to see if we like changes before we "buy" them.

Please check out forums.mikeholt.com/testforum and tell me what you think. Bear in mind, not all changes are represented, because I am not clever enough to mess around with the templates that are written in a mixture of pig latin and swahili. ;)

Items I have changed to look for:

1. Smilies Improved (still a work in progress)
2. Background changed to white - which changes the posts, and also the outlines of the indexes of the forum.
3. Deleted post 'residue' should be visible to all members
4. On the index page, Mike Holt's forums are grouped together to reduce clutter
5. Italics are removed from quotes
6. Thicker line for signatures, darkened the color

I am going to ask for these items to be changed on the regular forum exactly as you see them, so if you want a nip here and a tuck there, speak now. My email goes out tonight.

Thanks for all your input, it's very important, and I appreciate your time in chiming in and looking it over.

Looks great George. I especially like the "Mike's Corner". Certainly streamlines the scrolling down to get the moderators section.

Better.

Links are not underlined.
Would like "Today's Posts" as a permanent option on any viewing screen.

Yeah, those are both Joe's items. For now, assume everything that was on the list is going to get done, these are just the items I could pull off without too much trouble. There are some things that aren't feasible, but for the most part it's there.

I should point out that I just changed the name to reflect what they're actually going to call it, "Resources". I guess Belynda had some trouble sticking her dad in a "corner". ;)

thank you, and ?

thank you, and ?

Looks good, George. Thank you for taking (alot, I bet) of your time to make it better for us.

While I'm here, I just realized I can no longer use the code section as a search criteria, for instance I wanted to review SE between panels so I querried 334.80 hoping it would lead me to a previous thread I remember seeing. No dice. So I just for grins I tried 250.66 to see if it would come up, again, no dice. I then tried NEC 334.80, ditto. Can this be fixed, or am I asking for too much? Thanks.

Oh, and I got rid of the post icons, we were kinda thinking they were clunky and didn't serve much of a function anyway.

What are the post icons?
Everything looks good. I can't tell a lot of difference in the white background but that's probably my laptop. I need to go look at my pc to get a good look.

See? I told you you wouldn't miss 'em.

See the little

at the top of this post, under my name? Those pictures.

I didn't miss the post icons, either. Didn't really notice them in the first place, though I think I remember trying to click on one to see what it would do.

Anyway, changes look good so far. :)+D)

Question: Do you think would be confusing for a poll to be bumped every time a vote is cast, versus the current setup where a poll thread is only bumped to the top of the list when a new post is created in the thread?

No. A vote is just as much a reply as is a post (well maybe not as wordy).

George, it appears as though the two minute grace period to edit posts with out an "edited by" is no longer in affect, is that the case?

That is not a bad idea....

On another front. When I move my cursor over to the right side of new post page the first part of the first post shows up. It gets in the way. Can that be limited to the left side where the title is instead of where the last post icon is located?

Yeah, I can put that back, I was testing something and forgot.

You just keep coming up with things that can't be done, Dennis. What can I say?

George,

Not sure if this was talked about in the past, How about adding an Employment Formum for Electricians/Engineers looking for work or contractors looking for Electricians to the site. Just an idea to help each other since the Economy has gone soft.
