From Mike's Master/Contractor Simulated Exam: part 3 q. 27

What's the general lighting and receptacle load for a 30,000 sq ft bank?

The answer key says to multiply the lighting load of 3.5VA/sq ft from the table by 1.25.

I got 135KVA but that's not one of the answer choices.

I thought Table 220.12 load was THE load. The question does not ask for feeder conductor size discussed in 215.2(A), or OCPD or Service for that matter.

Here is what I got:

T220.12

30,000 x 3.5 = 105,000

T220.42 and 215.2(A)(1)

105,000 x 1.25 =131,250 for lights

---------------------------------

220.14(K)

30,000 x 1=30,000

T220.44

30,000- 10,000=20,000

20,000 x .5= 10,000

20,000 for rec.
-----------------------------
131,250 + 20,000 = 151,250

I didn't use Table 220.44 for recepts because 220.14(I) says;
"except as covered in 220.14(J) and 220.14(K)..." (If I'm understanding that right)

My real issue is with adding a 'continuous' demand factor to a value given in a demand table for bank general lighting. I can see doing it if you were taking dwelling general lighting and using that value for a bank...
Dwelling is 3VA/sq ft
Bank is 3.5VA/sq ft
The extra 1/2 a VA is the continuous electric discharge lighting -I'd figure.

Annex D examples don't do that. Utilization, including use for 3+ hours, is figured into bank general lighting DF table value - I thought.

I understand that OCPD, service, and conductor sizing requires 125% continuous derating for ampacity.
