Air Handler Disconnect in Closet

An A.H.U. air handler unit is in a closet space for itself. There is a disconnect in the panel and one more in the front/part of the unit. Does there need to be an additional disconnect on the wall of the closet space also? Some say yes, some say no.
Thank you

Are you saying there is a panel in this closet near the air handler? If so then the breaker can be the disconnect for the AHU as long as it is within sight and less than 50' from the unit.

If there is a breaker on the unit it still would not need another disco, IMO.

(2005) Article 424.19(C) needs a marked "off" position.

Here, it's required that the integral disconnect (handle) be accessible without opening the cabinet to count as the disco.

The inspectors that I find that have a proplem with that are the A/C inspectors and the Multi-certified guys that don't understand and have just book lernin' and no experiance in the trade they are inspecting. When I was inspecting, My boss had to override them all the time.

disconnect..

disconnect..

If you can' see the disconnect (line of sight) then yes. Some air handlers have space for a built in breaker.. this may solve your problem. But you'd have to get the breaker at an AC supply house.
